Read all 10 reviews Read all 10 reviewsWinacre Lodge B&B was an excellent place to stay, it was handy to the city and had its own carpark which is always a plus and our hosts were fantastic, breakfast was delicious and a great variety the room was very comfortable.
I would not recommend booking a room at the Winacre Lodge. We booked a family room in January ! for our holiday in August. Upon arrival, we were 'welcomed' with one sentence: I have a problem not even a hello or hi. The owner did not have a room for us, as her family had come by for a surprise visit and she had given them our room. She had arranged a room for us in another B&B just up the road. This turned out to be okay, but we did feel like it was not in the same price range, while we did pay the same price. But what it boils down to is, that it is very unprofessional and extremely rude to turn customers away like that. It was going to be our first ever stay in a B&B and made us doubt whether the whole B&B experience was such a good idea. So, if you want to be sure of a room upon arrival, I would not book a room at the Winacre Lodge.
I stayed here for two nights during my 2 1/2 weeks driving tour of Ireland. The hosts were pleasant and helpful although Phil doesn't smile much and seemed a little aloof. I dealt mostly with Phil and met Martin only once briefly during breakfast. The B&B is not near enough to walk to town so you'll need a car. Depending on traffic, it'll take about 5 minutes or so. There's no free parking in town but it's not too expensive. Lots of parking spaces near the cathedral in town and it costs 5 euro for the day. If you come after 6 or 6:30 pm I forgot exactly, it's free. The B&B itself is clean and rooms are spacious. Breakfast is good and the breakfast area is great with a picturesque view through large windows. The surrounding area is quite a nice residential neighbourhood. A couple of negatives. The shower, like several other places, is not the best - water pressure and volume are low and not that easy to adjust. Wifi in my room was very bad - either very weak and inconsistent or non-existent. I had to go out into the living room in the front to get decent reception.
